Unerwartet taucht der Ort auf, ein entzückender Winkel aus vergangenen Zeiten, intakt und in seiner ganzen Herrlichkeit, stolz aufgerichtet im Bewußt-sein seiner Geschichte.
Der Blick aus den acht Turmfenstern geht über ein fast nicht endenwollendes Tal mit Olivenhainen, Weinbergen und Wäldern. Fast drängt sich ein berühmter Ausspruch Oscar Wildes auf: "Jeder Ort, den wir lieben, wird zu unserer Welt".
Das Relais liegt vor uns und umfaßt bei-nahe ganz die kleine Ortschaft, die wie ein kleines Juwel in der Hügelkrone vor uns auftaucht, nachdem wir eine angenehme Straße verfolgt haben, die vom Grün der umbrischen Landschaft umschmeichelt wird.
Die herrschende Ruhe ist erstaunlich: in je-der Ecke kann man im Grün der Bäume Vögel singen hören und vergessen, daß überall sonst auf der Welt das Leben seinen Rhythmus verändert hat.
Im Inneren machen sich wieder Geschichte und ländliche Atmosphäre bemerkbar, hier hat das Castello di Poggio seine klare Schloßstruktur bewahrt. Vielleicht liegt es an dem typischen umbrischen Gestein, das für die Gemäuer, bis hinein in die Empfangsräume verwendet wurde, vielleicht am riesigen und wunderschönen Mahl- und Preßstein, an den Rundbögen oder den Cottoböden - jedenfalls liegt in der Luft ein ganz besonders bezauberndes, nicht definierbares Etwas...
